Wooden toys have been a staple in children's playtime for generations. One of the most popular wooden toys is the wooden toy camera. These cameras not only offer a unique and fun play experience for children, but they also offer a variety of educational and developmental benefits.
One of the biggest benefits of wooden toy cameras is that they encourage imaginative play. Children can pretend to be photographers, capturing pictures of their friends and family, or even their toys. This helps them to develop their creativity and imagination, as well as their social skills.
Another benefit of wooden toy cameras can also help children learn about the world around them. As they take pictures, they are exposed to different colors, shapes, and textures, which can help to stimulate their visual and cognitive development.
Wooden toy cameras help to develop fine motor skills in children. They are easy to hold and play with, and can help children to improve their hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Father's Factory is your one destination to find the perfect wooden toy camera that fits your budding photographer. They are eco-friendly and non-toxic, as they are made from real solid wood with no paint and only natural wax. When we designed our toys at Father's Factory, one of our missions was to extend the lifespan of the our toys. Our children grow up fast, and the toys they plan also turn around fast. We often find ourselves donate or throw away their toys every few months. So we decided to use our design power to solve this problem. We use classic styles and higher end materials so families can keep the toy as a decor piece after the children out grow it, and keep it in the family for longer time.
Father's Factory also expands from 1 collection to now 3 wooden toy camera collections to fulfill different families' wishes. We have a wide selection of wooden toy cameras, and become everyone's wooden toy camera destination when they want to look for a good toy camera for their budding photographers!
]]>Father’s Factory positions itself as a different kind of toy company. It argues that while most toy companies design their products to be played with for a short period of time, Father’s Factory designs its toys to last much longer.
“Our toys inspire families to be creative, to explore around, and to play outside more. Our goal is to design toys that have a longer product life span so they won’t be thrown out and end up in the landfill once the toys fulfill their purposes,” the company explains on its website.

July is Plastic Free month. It's the perfect time to start with fewer plastics in our lives. Today we have an Q&A section with Aida from Non Toxic Munchkin to talk about negative effects plastics bring to our lives and the planet, and how to start with few simple steps to replace some of the plastic we use in our lives.
Q&A with Aida, Non Toxic Munchkin
Q. Could you introduce yourself a bit?
Hi! I am Aida Garcia-Toledo. I live in Los Angeles, California ( but am originally from Miami and lived overseas most of my life) am a mom to two crazy boys and the Founder of Non-Toxic Munchkin. I founded Non-Toxic Munchkin over 11 years ago with the goal of making non-toxic living simpler and less overwhelming. For over a decade, with my philosophy of small steps =big impact, I have been empowering and teaching families to take small steps to reduce toxin exposure, helping them create a balanced, non-toxic, healthy home.
Q. What inspired you to get into non-toxic living?
Nearly 20 years ago I watched my mother battle breast cancer. Her experience opened my eyes to the effects that environmental chemicals can have on our health. Thanks to my years working in investigative journalism, researching came naturally, and I dived deep into researching the impact of toxic chemicals on our health. When I became pregnant with my oldest son, I realized how overwhelming finding products that would not expose my baby to harmful chemicals could be- and yet how important it was. This is when I decided to dedicate my life to educating parents about the hazards of daily exposure to toxic chemicals and help them transition to a healthier and less chemically dependent lifestyle without adding stress.
Q. How does non-toxic living change you and your family's lives?
Low tox living is definitely an ongoing journey for all of us..including my family! At some point along the journey, however, we realized that the solution to ( almost) everything is using less and going back to basics and nature. Since we all live in a consumer driven society, I think that this a fundamental shift in thought that has taken place in our home and in most homes who undertake this ‘journey’.
Q. How does plastic affect us and the planet?
So many ways- its quite tragic. In terms of our health, 2 main ways include: all plastics have been found to have the potential for endocrine disruption ( ie containing chemicals that can mess with our natural hormone balance). The continual exposure to small levels of these chemicals through many years have been linked to infertility, hormone related cancers, immune disorders and neurodevelopment disorders like ADHD and autism.
Microplastics, which have been found in our bodies and even in newborn baby placentas, can lead to a list of health impacts, including inflammation, genotoxicity and oxidative stressEnvironment:Plastic is truly taking over our environment and doing more harm than I think many realize.By the time our kids are in their 30’s (2050) it’s estimated that, by weight, the ocean will contain more plastic than fish, according to a 2016 study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.Plastic pollution is affecting wildlife, they eat the plastic and get stuck in plastic. Plastics block digestive tracts, diminish the urge to eat, and alter feeding behavior, all of which reduce growth and reproductive output. It seems to affect reef health and microplastics are increasingly found in fish we humans eat. Making plastics, because they require petroleum, generate harmful emissions into our atmosphere (a PET bottle generates more than 100 times the toxic emissions to air and water than making the same size bottle out of glass. )
Q. Where should we start with plastic free living?
Transitioning away from plastics, I have found, requires commitment. Some changes are easy and obvious, others require spending some time sourcing replacements, and most single use plastic replacements just require advance planning and preparation. Here are some great places to start:
1. At the grocery store avoid plastic packaged foods and produce. Instead choose: glass for mustard, ketchup, soups, milk, yogurt, nut butters, maple syrup etc. Avoid plastic produce bags: BYO canvas reusable
2. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE: One MILLION plastic bottles are purchased every minute in the world... and then they are discarded. The only way to avoid millions of plastic bottles going to the landfill for hundreds of years is bringing your own reusable bottle. Search for bottles made with stainless steel or glass- ideally without any plastic parts.
3. When ordering deliver ask the restaurant NOT to include disposable cutlery with the meal. Always avoid plastic straws too!Pay attention to your favorite products and the containers they come in.
4. If they your favorite face cream, face cleaner, shampoo, laundry detergent etc come in plastic containers slowly start looking for replacement products that are offered in more sustainable packaging. Baeo Baby, True Botanicals, OSEA, Meliora cleaning products, are just some of the brands I like that avoid most plastic in their packaging.
Q. Where should we start with non-toxic living?
One of the things I love most about non-toxic living, so much that it has become my philosophy, is simple: small changes = big impact. Any change you can make at home to decrease your exposure to any one chemical will have a big impact on you and your family's health. So, no matter how small it might seem, start today!
1. TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF.
Your shoes bring in petroleum byproducts, pesticides, heavy metals, fecal matter, etc. Start the habit of leaving them by the front door.
2. OPEN YOUR WINDOWS, YEAR ROUND IF POSSIBLE.
The air inside our homes is more polluted than the air outside. Opening the windows, even for a couple of minutes, allows fresh air to circulate and nasty chemicals to leave your home.
3. CLEAN CLEANER.
Stop using toxic store-bought conventional cleaning products! Instead, make your own or choose a truly non-toxic brand. Conventional cleaners are filled with really bad chemicals- linked to everything from asthma to diabetes, reproductive disorders, hormone disruption, neurotoxicity and cancer. Making your own safe cleaners is as easy as mixing 50% vinegar with 50% water.4. KEEP DUST LOW: Household dust accumulates tons of toxins including flame retardants, phthalates, phenols, lead, PFAS chemicals and more. Vacuum frequently with a HEPA filter vacuum and clean using a moist rag5. WASH HANDS OFTEN: Especially for children who tend to place their hands in their mouth, frequent hand washing (with a plain, non-toxic soap like castle soap) is a key yet easy way to reduce exposure to phthalates flame retardants and pfas (from dust they might touch while playing on the floor or with toys) and pesticides and heavy metals ( after playing outdoors). Also keeps us all healthier year round.
Q. Anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you so much for having me and for creating and inspiring us all with your timeless and truly special cameras and toys!
Q: Let's get to know you two a bit. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?
A: Hi everyone!! We are Matt and Kiel (daddy and papa as our kids call us) We have 4 adopted children. A 9 year old, 4 year old and boy/girl twins that are 2! We are a very busy household to say the least 🤪
Matt about Kiel: his big caring “I think about everyone before I think about myself” heart. Kiel about Matt: Matt is so selfless, he likes to have everything in its spot and he easily creates purpose for all things around him.
Q:What is the no.1 challenge being parents for both of you?
A: The number one challenge about being parents of 4 kids is making sure we create enough quality time to focus on life’s small lessons. As grownups we get so consumed with things that don’t even matter to children that we forget to acknowledge the little things.
Q: What sets ONEderchild apart from other toy store?
A: As a same sex bi-racial couple growing up as kids we never knew or saw anything quite like our store. As a child we longed to see “people like us” something to connect to, anything that represent the “colors of the rainbow” we never found it. Growing up and feeling different was hard and scary. Our dream is to create this magical space where kids feel safe and grownups can be kids. We do this through an extensive book collection, and hand curated toys and gifts that spark creativity and imagination. We want all to see that being who you are is more than enough. Who you are is “normal”.
Q: What is the biggest challenge in running your business today?
A: Our biggest challenge right now is post COVID getting back to the everyday ins and outs of running a business. The past year was overwhelmingly scary. This is our livelihood there were times that we stiff in the store together and asked ourselves how are we going to make it. Fortunately we all see the sun over the Horizon and it looks and feels beautiful.
Q: If a friend is visiting Solvang, what are the top 3 spots (can be restaurants or local shops) you'd recommend?
A: Oh my there are so many! First I would eat at Ramen Kotori, then rent a Moke and drive around Solvang and see everything. I would then cruise down the street to The Sweet stuff and have the best frozen yogurt! All this of course would be done after shopping at ONEderChild!

Today, we have a chance to have an Q&A with My Backyard Chronicles to learn more about their inspiration and business. My Backyard Chronicles
]]>
Q: What was your thought process behind starting your own business? What are your motivation and inspiration behind the business?
A: We felt that Dubai and the region as a whole was missing a kids' concept store that focused on nature inspired play, simple games, timeless toys and play pieces that inspire children's imagination but at the same time were kind to the environment. Our mission is to get kids unplugged and inspire them to explore, create and play outside.
Q: Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about?
A: My Backyard Chronicles is an e-commerce platform that offers a curated selection of sustainable and eco-friendly toys and products for kids sourced both locally and around the world. We have a passion for beautiful things, we believe in slow play and we are committed to offer open-ended toys that encourage a child’s imagination and invite a sense of wonder and curiosity into everyday play. We handpicked and sourced all our brands from around the globe and brought them to the Middle East for the first time.
All our brands are eco-friendly and sustainable, all our suppliers share the same ethos as us. We aim to be more than just an online store, we are trying to create sustainability awareness in kids as well as creating a community of like minded parents to share experiences, advice and to support each other. Our social media aims to be a place to shop as well as being a place to get inspired. The thing I love the most though has to be the amazing people that we are meeting along the way, our suppliers as well as our customers and everyone in between.
Q: What are the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way?
A: Lessons: Patience, a business takes a lot of work and time to develop. If something fails, learn and try again. Treat your fellow retailers as friends and build a community instead of try and compete with each other. There is space for everyone in the market and nobody is you, so there is no real competition. Sometimes you really love a brand or a product but you need to accept that your customers might not and you need to move on.
Challenges: Push yourself out of your comfort zone (i.e. I am not a sale person) and having to learn new skills (i.e. accounting). Make sure you are able to separate work and private life, as when you work on your own business its easy to keep going, set boundaries around the times you work and the time you are present with your family. Some days are tough and you seem to lose purpose or the drive, sometimes it can be challenging to stay positive and keep going.

]]>Teaching your kids photography is a great way to spend time and bond with them. Through activities like guided photo walks and photo challenges, your children get to learn extracurricular skills outside the walls of the classroom. Additionally, photography helps develop your child's voice and identity, as it gives them the chance to express themselves visually. There are also valuable life lessons to be learned through photography. Here are a few of them:
Practice makes perfect
People rarely do things perfectly on the first try. This is why it's important to teach kids the value of patience and perseverance from a young age. Fortunately, photography is a good avenue to do that. For one, having a digital camera means they can take and re-take as many photos as they want until they get the shot right. Encourage them to keep going, and to not give up. After all, they will have to go through a lot of mistakes and frustration before becoming an expert at something.
Caring for the equipment is important
Photographers take great pains to maintain their cameras, and this is something you can use to teach your child about ownership and responsibility. For starters, you can guide them on how to use camera equipment and accessories to keep their devices clean. Tools like the Nikon Lens Pen Cleaner ($8.95) are safe for children to use as it's non-toxic and won't scratch or damage a camera's lens. Similarly, the Giottos Rocket Air Blaster ($16.99) is easy enough for kids to handle, and even comes in a rocket shape that's sure to pique a child's interest. If you’re reluctant to let them touch your expensive DSLR, you can have them start out on something more affordable, like the Father's Factory wooden digital camera instead.
Learn how to focus
A huge part of photography is learning to pick out a good subject. Of course, this may be difficult for kids, especially those easily wonderstruck at the smallest thing, so make it a habit to review and evaluate their images with them. Talk to your kids about the importance of having an interesting main focus in their photos. While you’re at it, you can even teach them about the camera's autofocus, focal lock, and zoom modes to make things easier as they shoot.
Exploration unlocks creativity
Kids are free to explore their own styles without being constrained by grown-up rules and conventions. As such, letting your child explore and experiment through photography — like the different angles, positions, and perspectives they can shoot from — can help nurture their creativity. In fact, this extends even to pretend play. Though more research is required to be conclusive, studies have suggested that pretend play is linked to cognitive and social development in children. Thus, simply using pretend photography devices like wooden toy cameras can help foster such traits as creativity that kids can bring later into their lives.
Art and creativity is about having fun
At the end of the day, learning about photography should be fun and not a chore. As such, be careful about imposing too many rules and restrictions on your child, and simply let them explore the possibilities they can see through their camera lenses. What's more, it's important to remind them to hold onto that childlike wonder, especially as they grow older.
There are plenty of lessons to be learned from photography beyond ISO, aperture, or the rule of thirds. Start your kids early and help them reap the benefits of photography.
Stay tuned for part II of Kara's photo collection! Next adventure will be in India.

]]>We knew that a strap would help children not losing or dropping the camera. When we manufactured the second time for our 35MM Wooden Toy Cameras, we added a knot on the side for aesthetic and functioning as a place to tight the strap in the future. Then we met Irene from la Lovie, a brand that specialized in handmade dolls and slow crafts. We immediately felt in love with her work.
Her attention to details is amazing. We love her aesthetics and the styles she put into her dolls. She gave each dolls as much love and life as she could, and sent them to the lovely families around the globe.
We asked if she would help us to make some straps. We chose different patterns, materials, and colors. With many options to come, parents and children can personalize their first beloved camera!
Now there would be options to carry the camera onto the next adventures, put it on a tripod as an interior decor at home, or both!
We are so glad that we found Irene, together we gave our cameras new purpose, functions, and lives!

"It is a real camera for your little explorer to document their nature finds! This heirloom-quality wooden digital camera by Father’s Factory is just as functional as it is beautiful. It’s so fantastic that I gifted it to E early this year because I just couldn’t wait to see what he shoots with it! The camera is 8mp, comes with a wide-angle and fish-eye lens and has built in filters. The wooden tripod is a great addition to the camera and allows you to display the camera when it’s not in use! I would recommend this one for grade school children and up. If you have a younger child, check out their line of wooden toy cameras!"

We are so happy to see that our camera can help children's nature study. It's wonderful to have the camera on hand to document their days. It adds an extra meaning to their study.

Ever since the family got him a wooden camera when he was about 2 years old, he has taken it everywhere with him, on every vacation, to document his experiences with just imaginary photos. From Disneyland to the aquarium, he took imaginary photos everywhere.
The family has been waiting for Owen's fifth birthday to gift him with our real Wooden Digital Camera that took real photos and he was ecstatic. Although as a dentist Owen's dad always playfully encourages him to follow in his footsteps, Owen has always wanted to be an artist from the time that he could speak. He loves to paint, draw, and now to take photos. His muse is currently his 20 month old sister as he follows her around all day to snap photos of her.

Take a look at behind the scene of our newly launch Super 16 wooden toy camera.
]]>When Jimmy, our founder was little, his dad had a vintage camera that you could crank the level on the camera to record movies. He found joy in the cranking motion, and that memory stayed with him throughout the years. Unfortunately, he broke the rewind level at the end. The rest of the story as we can imagine, dad grounded him for 2 weeks.
Besides the punishment from dad, that joyful moment of playing with the vintage camera stayed with him. He reflected that recollection onto the toy he designed.
After the success of Super 8, Jimmy wanted to add more to complete our movie wooden toy camera collection. We have the complete 35MM wooden toy camera collection for children to capture images. Now we need something fun for children to tell their adorable stories! The movie wooden toy camera collection will connect children to the world for them to tell their stories to love ones.
This is the original idea of the Super 16 wooden toy camera. It was the first draft Jimmy drew. So much improvements had been done, and the final product looks so different than the original idea.
Part of the technical drawing of the Super 16 wooden toy camera.
When we designed, we utilized the 3D printing technology after we drew everything 2D. This way it ensured the accuracy when we sampled.
Of course, our 2 little monkeys are our source of inspirations.

Beya Made designed clothes that fit your child 3x longer than other brands. Environmental stewardship is one of the best ways to guarantee a healthy future for our kiddos, so they are using design to solve one of the planet's biggest problems--textile waste! Beya Made's clothes not only last long and also very stylish.
Jackalo makes clothes for children who are explorers, adventurers, outdoor-lovers, and tinkers. As a mother, Marianna found it hard to buy clothes to keep up with children's daily activities. They are either cheap on materials or overpriced for good quality. She founded Jackalo to bring back old-fashioned quality to kids' clothing that is strong enough for active kids and also gentle on the environment.
Father's Factory is a family-run brand founded by husband and wife who believed children deserved better quality toys that spark their imaginations.

]]>I am scared of snakes and bugs, so sleeping in a tent sounds terrifying to me. We loved the idea of #vanlife, so we decided to give it a try. It ended up our SUV was very comfortable. It was very cozy and we had senses of security inside of our SUV.
Despited the heat, we made it to Joshua Trees. It is no doubt a beautiful national park. It is a place filled with serenity. We picked Black Rock as our campground, and we immediately felt in love with it. We were not even in the park, but we have already been stunned by the beauty of the land.
The sky, the sand, and the trees are all great backdrop to our Wooden Digital Camera.
With our Wooden Digital Camera on hand, kids showed lots of interests to their surroundings. They started paying attention to all the texture on the rock, the details on the plants, and they look closely to the flowers to take an interesting shot! I am so happy to see kids putting good uses for our cameras.
Here are some sample photos we downloaded from the kids' cameras:
Thanks to them, these very special photos are from angles we, adults have never thought of showing interests to. From their photos and their point of views, all of a sudden these photos hold very special meaning.

The friends that we made recently are Carlijn from Poppie Toys and Irene from la Lovie. Carlijn designed and run the business all by herself. She is such a strong woman that constantly inspires us. Irene is an amazing toy and interior decor designer who created every item by herself and also hand-stitched all of them at her home studio. She even silk-screened her own patterns! When we received their toys, we immediately fell in love with them.
Wooden toys and pretend play toys have a lot of benefits for children of all ages. They can use their imaginations in their play, and expand their mindsets. All the textures from the natural materials will stimulate their brains and help their sensory development. High-quality toys are lasting a long time, and it is also one of our goals is to make heirloom-quality toys that are not only fun to play with but also looking great on shelves.
As we adore Irene's craftsmanship, we are so happy to announce that we get to collaborate with her. Stay tuned for our new addition that would add extra fun and functionality to our cameras!

NOORA @noorastudios
Ties their collections to the Finnish heritage starting with the company name, “Noora”. Noora is a Finnish baby girl name meaning “light”, which takes on two meanings for us: our earrings are weightless (light as air) and they’re colorful (light up a room!) and truly, art for your ears! They’ve always held the belief that taking a stand, speaking up, and making a statement should be the thing a woman most admires about herself. The various Noora collections give any color, age, nationality of woman that opportunity. Wearing bold art on your head is statement enough!
Los Angeles is an incredible city - but it's so large and so vast and so diverse that all of us are missing out on tons of great people, businesses, organizations, events and more. Today, we are so honored to be featured on Voyage LA. Read the article on Voyage LA website.
]]>Both of the camera cases were inspired by Amy, the artist’s four-year-old daughter who is on the autism spectrum. Amy notices things that others might miss, the delicate little wildflowers, fluffy dandelions, and moving colors flowing in the wind everywhere! These are all the inspiration sources for Dr. Danilelle. They sketched them out and painted them on the paper camera case. The infinity symbol on the back of the camera is the symbol for neurodiversity which celebrates the diverse minds that exist in our human family.
Amy is a sensory girl who loves art and the outdoors, as mommy! The mother and daughter duo share those loves together. The red in this image comes from her as she chose it herself. She loved the color red and painted it here. Dr. Danielle put in the rainbow colors with oil pastels and worked on putting in realistic drawings of insects that Amy loves. It would represent photographs and also the natural world that she observes on our daily walks around the neighborhood.
I am so touched when I read Dr. Danilelle’s words. We want to share their story with you to shout out to all the brave moms out there. Her words reminded me to continue to see imperfect beauty in our daily lives and our children’s lives. I hope this story will bring a little sunshine to your day in 2020.

]]>GIFT AND ACTIVITY IDEAS
I’ll be honest, gift buying for my children isn’t easy these days! Looking around my house, there are just so many toys! This year, I wanted to find a special gift for my children’s birthdays, one they would cherish for a long time, but I was also looking for gifts that wouldn’t cause additional clutter.
There is a lot of discussion about offering experiences over toys when it comes to gift buying, and I love the idea behind this, but what if there was a way to capture both in one gift? I have found a few gifts which do just this. They are small, they inspire creativity, and they encourage children to get out and explore all at the same time!
My children love being creative. Give them some tools, art supplies, craft items, and they couldn’t be happier. I can relate as a blogger. I am constantly snapping photos and the kids see me take them. In fact, they are my subjects most of the time. I was so happy when a wonderful company, Father’s Factory, gifted us some of their items to try. Check out these amazing gift ideas that my kiddos cannot get enough of. These are some of their favorite gifts of all time. I will share the gifts they love and also some neat craft and activity ideas for any child who loves creating and exploring! You can rest assured that I only recommend products that I know and love.......
